How do I cancel or downgrade my account to Free?

Accepted Answer

Note that there's a different way of cancelling a paid subscription depending on where you're subscribed (website, Google Play, or App Store).

If you subscribed on the website, you can cancel on the website on your computer.

First, go to your account settings by clicking "More" in the left Panel and then click on "Settings". Then, go to "Subscription" and click/tap on "Downgrade to Free".

Follow the steps, and be sure to read all of the options given at the bottom.

Your subscription will remain active until the end of the current billing period. After that, it will downgrade to Free automatically and you will not be charged.

If you subscribed via Google Play or App Store, you can cancel your subscription on your device's subscription list.

How do I delete/deactivate my account?

To permanently delete your account, go to your account settings.

You'll find them by clicking on "More" > "Settings" in the left panel.

And then click on "deactivate account."

This will immediately delete your account from our system. This is permanent and irreversible.

To cancel your subscription without deleting your account, please follow these steps.

How does the free trial work?

The free trial is available to all new users (that is, if you've never had a FluentU account before). All you have to do is choose the plan you'd like to try and register as you normally would.

We do require a payment method to sign up, but rest assured we won't charge you if you cancel at least one day before your trial ends.

The subscription will continue unless you unsubscribe before the end of your trial.

You can downgrade or deactivate at least one day before a subscription period ends and you will not be charged.

How to use the Netflix Chrome extension?

Please take note that you need an active Netflix and FluentU subscription.
The Netflix extension will not work on iPad.

Follow these steps to install and use the FluentU Netflix Chrome extension.

Step 1: Install Google Chrome

The Netflix Chrome extension is only compatible with Google Chrome. If you don't have Chrome installed, download and install it from the following link: Download Google Chrome.

Step 2: Install the Netflix Chrome Extension

Once you have Google Chrome installed, then you'll need to install the Netflix Chrome extension to your browser using this link: FluentU Netflix Chrome extension

Step 3: Log In to the Extension

After installing the extension, click on the FluentU icon in your Chrome toolbar to log in. Follow the prompts to enter your credentials. For a visual guide, refer to this screenshot: Log In Screenshot. Also note that it requires logging in for the word lookup to work.

You may also need to Reload the Netflix Page and Disable Other Chrome Extensions after installing it for the first time.

Refreshing the Netflix page can often resolve synchronization and loading issues.
Other Chrome extensions might interfere with the Netflix Chrome Extension for FluentU. Temporarily disabling them can help identify if they are causing the problem.

It's not possible to download the videos themselves for watching because it violates the YouTube Terms of Service. Our videos are available for streaming only.

Nevertheless, on the website, you can download a PDF transcript of each video or audio with translations for study offline. You can also download our audio and flashcards on your mobile devices.
