How to use the FluentU Chrome extension on YouTube?
Enhance your language learning experience using FluentU's Chrome extension on YouTube.
Please take note that you need an active FluentU subscription.
The YouTube video should have subtitles available.
Caption should be turned On.
Follow these steps to install and use the FluentU Chrome extension on YouTube.
The Chrome extension is only compatible with Google Chrome. If you don't have Chrome installed, download and install it from the following link: Download Google Chrome.
Once you have Google Chrome installed, then you'll need to install the FluentU Chrome extension to your browser using this link: FluentU Chrome extension
After installing the extension, click on the extension management icon (looks like a puzzle piece), find the FluentU icon and click the pin icon next to it to turn it blue to enable it. Then click the FluentU icon in your Chrome toolbar to log in. Follow the prompts to enter your credentials. For a visual guide, refer to this screenshot: Log In Screenshot. Also, note that it requires logging in for the word lookup to work.
You may also need to Reload the YouTube Page and Disable Other Chrome Extensions after installing it for the first time.
Refreshing the page can often resolve synchronization and loading issues.
Other Chrome extensions might interfere with the Chrome Extension for FluentU. Temporarily disabling them can help identify if they are causing the problem.

With the FluentU extension logged in, go to YouTube and start playing any video with subtile.
Once the video is playing, switch the subtitles to the language you are learning. This can be done through the subtitle settings on YouTube.
While watching, hover over or click on any word in the subtitles to see definitions and examples. This feature helps you understand and learn new vocabulary in context.
To further enhance your learning, add words to your vocabulary. These words can later be reviewed within the FluentU app.
