  • Why do I see progress on videos when I've only just created my account?
    FluentU's 'progress bar' acts as both a measure of how much of that video (or audio) you've learned with FluentU, and also how many of its vocabulary words you already know before watching it. A word can be considered 'already known' by FluentU in two ways: You clicked 'Already Known' on the word while using FluentU  FluentU assumed you 'already knew' the word based on your language level settings  If you click "Already Know" for a word, you can find it in your Already KnFew readers

    Spaced Repetition Software (SRS) helps you remember things easily by letting you review something just as you're about to forget it. FluentU has an SRS feature known as "Ready for Review."   • What do the colors mean on the Progress bars?
    The progress bars have three colors: Yellowgreen (Learning stage) : Before you reach 100% learned in the content.  Green (Completed stage) : When you reach 100% learned.  Yellow (Review stage) : After you've reached 100% learned content, the progress goes down according to the SRS algorithm.     You are probably an Intermediate level or above. When you choose an upper level of study, the program assumes you already know all the vocabulary in the lower levels.   • What’s the difference between “% Learned” and “% Mastered”?
    “% learned” represents short-term retention, and “% mastered” is long-term retention. “% learned” can be increased by learning a video in a short period of time. On the other hand, % mastered can only be increased when you get questions correct based on the spaced repetition algorithm. The spaced repetition algorithm will show you questions when words appear as “Ready for Review” on your home screen.Few readers

    In order to be included in the quiz, the words and captions must satisfy the following conditions: Words are only tested if they are featured vocab (ie. underlined).  Captions are only tested if they include at least one featured vocab. If you'd like to get tested on words that aren't featured, you must manually add them to your My Vocab section or to any of your personalized flashcard deck.
